recycle or die

I made this outfit for a party whose theme was "dress like it's 2027." I figure that in 20 years, we will need to be doing a lot better job of reusing and recycling materials in everyday life.


the skirt is made out of shopping bags, like the kind you'd get at a clothing store. it's held together with garbage-bag twisty ties. the fact that I had so many shopping bags disturbed me. when did I buy all this stuff? WHY did I buy all this stuff?


one of my favorite things is the row of bows down the back of the skirt, where the strips of plastic were tied together. it combines this kind of girly industrial frilly look... and the purse is made from one of those zipper-top bags that socks come in, with a grocery bag handle tied to it. it actually turned out to be the perfect accessory, since it was raining that night and my stuff stayed dry!
